Leer South is looking for a Surveyor I, Surveyor II, or Surveyor III to join our successful team in Philippi, West Virginia.

Job Title: Surveyor I, Surveyor II, or Surveyor III

Grade: $32.50; $34.90; $35.90

Job Location: Sentinel/Leer South Mining Complex (Philippi, WV)

SURVEYOR I RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Setting spads as directed by a party chief/instrument operator
• Capable of extended periods of work from atop a ladder
• Keeping inventory of supplies and notifying supervisor as needed
• Maintaining supply of brass tags, spad wire, and plugs, and making more as needed

SURVEYOR II RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• All responsibilities and prerequisites for advancement of a Surveyor I
• Interfacing with underground supervisors daily, and plan work accordingly
• Maintain spad lines according to projections
• Supervising rodmen, and ensuring they deliver clear instructions to ensure accuracy and efficiency
• Ensuring that work obtaining measurements and data are done thoroughly

SURVEYOR III RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• All responsibilities and prerequisites for advancement of a Surveyor I & II
• Certify maps and drawings as a representative of the company

MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of High School diploma or GED equivalent
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills, and the knowledge and ability to make decisions relative to maintenance.
• Basic computer skills
• Experience performing responsibilities of Surveyor I

SURVEYOR II MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Must have an interest in developing survey skills
• Must continuously demonstrate ability and willingness to perform all duties associated with the Surveyor II position
• Must be able to run level loops and calculate closures
• Must have shown competency in setting up the total station, and directing a rodman in setting spads/survey points
• Must have demonstrated ability to run check surveys and calculate azimuth ties
• Must be able to operate a data collector in conjunction with a total station for the purposes of obtaining as-builts and profiles
• Must be proficient with all types of survey equipment as it pertains to underground surveying (Total Station, Auto-level, Data Collector)
• Must be able to process field data via Excel, AutoCAD, Carlson, etc.
• Must be able to use field data to produce maps and drawings with AutoCAD to be used by operations

SURVEYOR III MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• All responsibilities and prerequisites for advancement of a Surveyor I & II
• Certify maps and drawings as a representative of the company
• Possession of, and willingness to use a license issued by the West Virginia Board of Professional Land Surveyors
