Job Location: Sentinel/Leer South Mining Complex (Philippi, WV)

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE: Join a high-level management team and promoting a safe, injury free and healthy work environment. The successful candidate will work as member of our management team to assure safe work practices, employee engagement, and regulatory compliance and provide support for a mature behavior based safety (BBS) culture.



RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

· Provides employees direction and guidance in safe job procedures, risk assessments and promote quality employee engagement in the team's BBS culture.

· Assist in reviewing and enhancing general safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal regulations

· Provide trend analysis for industry and workplace accidents, near miss analysis and observation.

· Lead regular inspections and audits of facilities and work environment to detect existing or potential health and safety hazards.

· Coordinate any accident investigation provide recommendations for corrective action and enhanced employee safety.

· Work with all state and federal agencies assuring safety and compliance reporting's is appropriately completed for the complex.

· Devise, supervise and coordinate training programs, serving as instructor when necessary

· Positive interaction with regulatory agencies during inspections, hearings, etc.

· Provide Oversight of the Behavioral Based Safety Process

· Coordinate with mine management, engineering and employees on mine plans, roof control plans, ventilation plans, etc.; assuring compliance with regulatory standards and employees safety.


MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • HS Diploma or GED required, BS in Engineering, Safety or related field preferred
  • 5 years of mining experience, 3 years of experience in a safety-related position
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of MSHA and State regulations and compliance strategies
  • Knowledge of Mine Rescue and Emergency Response/Preparedness protocols
  • Experience in developing Safe Operating Procedures and Internal Safety Standards
  • Familiarity with the NFPA and Fire Prevention strategies
  • Ability to conduct physical inspections in all mining environments
  • Experience in working with safety standards in the mining industry
  • Ability to interact with all levels of company employees, contractors and state and federal agencies
  • Proficient PC skills in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Must be conscientious, self-motivated and a strong team player
