GIS Analyst

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
Under the general supervision of the GIS Manager, plans, organizes, coordinates and participates in the maintenance and upkeep of Ark Land's geographic information system (GIS) to ensure data quality and integrity; participates in the long-term development and enhancement of GIS information technology to meet Ark Land's mapping and end user service objectives; performs GIS modeling and mapping duties; provides expertise, support, assistance and guidance to Arch Coal, Inc. staff and external contacts; works in conjunction with CAD users; and performs related duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Generate high quality/accurate maps, charts, graphs, tables, and data for various departments and individuals throughout Arch Coal, government agencies, and contractors using one or a combination of the following: ArcInfo 10.2, ArcGIS Server 10.2, AutoCAD Map 2012, Excel, Access, Word, and Adobe Acrobat Standard.
Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
Create, acquire, obtain, convert, organize, develop, update, and standardize GIS data for use with the various mapping systems and projects maintained by the GIS department.
Work directly with GIS product users and clients to assess their needs, create an action plan, coordinate product development, perform quality checks, perform product delivery, and ensure user/client satisfaction.
Update and maintain GIS features and data. Collect updated data from the appropriate source(s) following a set timeline for updates. Make the corresponding changes to the central database and the ArcGIS Server map application services.


MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geology, IT or related disciplines emphasizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Equivalent experience or education/experience combination will be considered.
• 2 or more years of on the job GIS experience.
• Proven ability and knowledge to use ArcGIS 10 (or newer) tools and extensions.
• Knowledge of ArcGIS for Server and how it is used in conjunction with ArcGIS.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills, able to convey technical information to nontechnical individuals.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to effectively communicate by oral and written methods.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• Three years of job related ESRI software experience.
• Experience using ArcGIS (10 or newer) in conjunction with AutoCAD (2012 or newer).
• Ability to use VB and/or Python to write and edit script files for custom tools.
• Experience developing web map services using ArcGIS for Server, ArcGIS API for JavaScript/Flex and Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS.
Experience reading and understanding land descriptions and public land survey system descriptions.
