Federal Government Affairs Representative

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:

This position will support SVP of Public Affairs in engaging members of Congress on a wide range of policy-related issues of critical importance to the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Work closely with Congressional staff on policy-related issues of critical importance to the company.

Attend frequent (several per week) fundraising events for members of Congress as the company's and as ArchPAC's representative; engage members and staff during those events to convey areas and issues of focus for the company.

Work closely with Arch's various trade and industry associations to make sure Arch's interests are well-represented, as well as to engage directly with members and staff in association-driven meetings.

Develop intelligence on existing and emerging legislative and regulatory issues of importance to the company; communicate key developments to the SVP of Public Affairs, other members of the External Affairs team, and others with a need to know at the corporate office.

Liaison with members of the corporate team such as the VP of safety, the director of environmental performance, operations leadership, and others who frequently engage on policy-related issues in DC.

Continue to provide direction on the best application of ArchPAC dollars managing those resources in a way that benefits members and advances the company's objectives.

PREFERRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree with  a degree in Political Science or a related field

3 to 5 years of experience in public policy, government affairs, or a related field

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral communications

Able to work outside of normal work hours to address emergencies and perform scheduled off-hour activities
