Construction Foreman - Underground Coal Mining

FLSA CLASSIFICATION : EXEMPT

GRADE LEVEL: EX.09

JOB LOCATION: Leer South Mining Complex, Philippi, WV

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:

Supervise construction work performed by hourly employees. Responsible for the safety of individuals working under his supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Manage and direct the construction crews in the performance of their duties on an assigned shift
• Visit all construction sites and identify hazardous conditions and problem areas to ensure issues are addressed and corrected
• Evaluate the work habits and safety practices of the construction crews and ensure all duties are performed safely according to mine laws and company policies
• Assure that all equipment operated by the construction crews is maintained in safe operating condition
• Maintain effective working relationships with construction crews with leadership, direction, and a responsive attitude
• Implement all safety policies and procedures related to an injury free work environment
• Actively support and promote the Behavior Based Safety Process at Leer
• Develop, implement, and monitor cost reduction plans and productivity improvements
• Examine daily requirements for manpower and supplies
• Complete required airway examinations
• General upkeep of all outby areas of mine

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum High School diploma or GED equivalent
• 2 years of mine construction experience
• Thorough knowledge of State and Federal Mining Laws
• Supervisory experience strong leadership ability
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Excellent problem solving skills, and the knowledge and ability to make decision relative to safety, production, maintenance, and compliance
• The ability to successfully supervise and motivate the workforce
• Basic computer skills
• WV Mine Foreman Certification
• EMT-M Certification preferred
